Afropop singer Wendy Shay has opened up about the emotional impact of cyberbullying, revealing that the intense backlash led her family to urge her to quit music and return to Germany. Despite these challenges, she has emerged stronger and remains one of Ghana’s top-streamed female artists.
In an interview with Nigerian media personality Adesope Olajide, Wendy described herself as “the most bullied artiste in the history of Ghanaian music.” She shared her struggles after entering the music scene following the tragic death of fellow artist Ebony, noting the harsh public criticism affected not just her but her entire family.
“My mum told me to quit and come back to Germany because it was overwhelming and impacted everyone in my family. Some relatives were even too embarrassed to associate with me at that time,” she recalled.

Wendy explained that the negativity became so intense that her mother pleaded with her to abandon her dreams. However, she believes that the experience ultimately made her stronger.
“I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy, but it built me,” she said. “Even with all that, I still have fans who support my music. I’m consistently ranked as one of the most streamed female artists.“
