Deputy Minister of Defence Major Retired Dereck Oduro has slammed the minority leader in parliament, Haruna Indrisu’s accusation of government “clandestinely” recruiting security personnel into the security agencies.
The Minority Leader in parliament has accused the Ministry of Defence for recruiting and training security personnel without following due process. Speaking at a Press Conference on Saturday, Mr Iddrisu, said the act constituted a form of discrimination by the ruling government and is an unacceptable practice that could undermine the security of the country and the intergrity of the ministry.
However, Deputy Minister of Defence responding to the accusations has described it as false with no merit. According to him, all the necessary procedures were duly observed before recruitment. Major Rtd Oduro said, “The President as the Commander in Chief of the Ghana Armed forces has the right to recruit as many security personnel as the defence budget will allow”.

Major Oduro noted that the accusations were baseless and must be disregarded by the public adding that “this is a lie with no credible justification except to mislead the public just as they misinformed Ghanaians over the Ghana and USA security agreement sometime ago”.
According to the Deputy Minister, the current ongoing training are for those whose training were interrupted some months ago due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“There has not been any recruitment into the security service since 2017. We were in the process of expanding works at the training facilities in order to be able to increase the recruitment until we were hit by the Covid-19 pandemic. Those who have begun their training have long been recruited but were asked to go on break when the President directed schools to close down. There is no truth in what the minority is saying” he lamented.
