The burial mass for celebrated Ghanaian musician and saxophonist Teddy Osei, a founding member of the iconic Afro-rock band Osibisa, will take place on Saturday, April 5, at St. Peter’s Basilica, Roman Hill, Kumasi, starting at 9:00 AM.
Before the mass, he will lie in state at his family’s home in Chirapatre, Kumasi, at 8:00 AM. Following the burial mass, interment will occur at the Chirapatre Royal Cemetery.
A thanksgiving service will be held on Sunday, April 6, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Chirapatre, followed by final funeral rites from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the family home that same day.
The esteemed music icon sadly passed away at the age of 88 on Tuesday morning, January 14, 2025.

Born in Kumasi, Osei was introduced to musical instruments as a child. He began playing the saxophone while trying to form a band with his college friends in the coastal city of Sekondi.
After graduating, he worked as a building inspector for a year before forming a band called “The Comets.” The Comets enjoyed a brief period of popularity before Osei moved to London in 1962. He received a grant from the Ghanaian government to study at a private music and drama school for three years, but was forced to leave due to a regime change in Ghana.
In 1969, he founded Osibisa with several other musicians. The band remained popular throughout the 1970s, though it experienced a decline, and it continues to perform today.
