The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested 21-year-old Daniel Tuffuor, a final-year student, in connection with the death of Miss Joana Deladem Yabani, a fellow final-year Biological Sciences student at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
Miss Yabani was discovered lifeless near the KNUST Disability and Rehabilitation Centre at around 5:00 a.m. on February 27, 2025. Campus security immediately alerted authorities, and investigations commenced.
Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, confirmed that Daniel Tuffuor was taken into custody after being identified through CCTV footage from the university campus and is currently assisting with police investigations.
To enhance security, the police have deployed 24-hour surveillance and intensified patrols across the KNUST campus.
Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has assured the university of maximum security.
In a phone conversation with Vice-Chancellor Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, he reiterated the police’s commitment to ensuring the safety of students and staff.
Professor Dickson expressed gratitude for the swift response, describing the incident as heartbreaking for the entire university community, therefore assuring students and parents that management is working closely with security agencies to prevent future occurrences.
The suspect appeared before the Kumasi Circuit Court 2 on Friday, February 28, where he was remanded.
Investigations are ongoing as authorities seek to determine the circumstances leading to Miss Yabani’s tragic death.
