Great Ampong, a gospel artist, apologizes publicly to President Mahama and the NDC for the offensive lyrics of his campaign song. Following the elections, he urges Ghanaians to come together.

Great Ampong, a gospel musician from Ghana, has apologized unconditionally to Ghanaians and National Democratic Congress (NDC) members for a campaign song he previously published that was critical of the party.

Great Ampong wrote a song supporting Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), ahead of the elections scheduled for December 7, 2024. Nevertheless, the song’s contentious lyrics made baseless accusations against the NDC and President John Dramani Mahama.

Ampong officially apologized in a video posted on February 22, 2025, for some offensive songs that were aimed at the NDC and particular residents. He acknowledged that the song might have offended certain Ghanaians and apologized to them.

Since then, the musician has dropped a new song called “Apology,” in which he urges Ghanaians to come together after the elections.

ICYMT: A New Chapter for the Actor-Politician, John Dumelo in the Agric sector commences

He emphasized that despite their many election campaign pledges, politicians of all stripes frequently put their personal interests ahead of that of the populace and the nation.

During the 2024 general elections, Ampong, a well-known NPP supporter, expressed his appreciation for the party openly. In order to support Dr. Bawumia and his running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), he wrote the campaign song.

The song’s lyrics extolled the NPP and urged Ghanaians to support them. In multiple interviews, Ampong adamantly refuted allegations that he had been paid by Dr. Bawumia to write the song, maintaining that his assistance was entirely voluntary. He maintained that the NDC had not had as much of an impact on Ghana’s development as the NPP had.

Many NPP supporters, however, were left in a state of confusion after John Dramani Mahama and the NDC won the elections in an unexpected turn of events.

Ampong has now tried to patch things up with President Mahama out of fear of possible political fallout. He emphasized that his lyrics were misunderstood and taken out of context in a recent interview.

His apology is interpreted as an effort to realign with the current leadership and disassociate himself from political issues.
