In a recent viral social media post, renowned actress Funke Akindele, who proudly identifies as a feminist, emphasized the importance of respect within marriage.
Despite her strong feminist beliefs, Akindele firmly stated that she does not advocate for women disrespecting their husbands.
“I’m a feminist but I don’t support a woman disrespecting her husband. Make sure you do what is right,” Akindele shared. She further elaborated on her views, saying, “We are not the weaker gender. Men are supposed to treat women with special respect.

Also, men should not think a woman belongs in the kitchen and can be talked to anyhow. We women are strong and bold. Our economic power is very important, which is why we should ensure we have and protect it so we can support our husbands.”
In an interview with Nigeria’s Arise TV last year, Akindele called on women to be enterprising and self-reliant, highlighting the significance of entrepreneurship for women, regardless of their circumstances.

Funke Akindele, popularly known as Jenifa, is a multifaceted Nigerian filmmaker, actress, director, producer, and politician. Born on August 24, 1977, in Ikorodu, Lagos State, Nigeria, she attended Grace Children’s School in Gbagada and later pursued a Mass Communication Ordinary National Diploma (OND) at the former Ogun State Polytechnic (now Moshood Abiola Polytechnic).
