In a heartfelt display of gratitude and community spirit, the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), led by Abraham Norman Nortey, marked Valentine’s Day by celebrating with market women on campus.

The initiative sought to recognize and honour the hardworking women who serve the university community daily.

As part of the celebration, the SRC distributed special parcels containing essential items such as rice, cooking oil, drinks, chocolates, and other treats to express appreciation for their dedication and service.

Honoring the Backbone of Campus Life

Addressing the market women, SRC President Abraham Norman Nortey highlighted the vital role market women play in students’ daily lives.

“These women are the backbone of our campus economy. They wake up every day to ensure that students have access to food, printing services, and other essential needs. Today, we are here to say thank you and remind them that their efforts do not go unnoticed,” he stated.

The market women, deeply moved by the gesture, expressed their gratitude to the SRC leadership. One of the beneficiaries shared:

“We have been here for years, serving students, and this is one of the rare moments when we feel truly seen and appreciated. This kind act from the SRC gives us joy and motivation to keep doing our work.”

A Celebration of Community and Gratitude

Students who witnessed the event commended the initiative, emphasizing the importance of acknowledging those who contribute to campus life.

“It’s inspiring to see the SRC recognizing the people who make life easier for us on campus. This act of kindness is a true reflection of leadership,” one student remarked.
