The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), under the leadership of The Abraham Norman Nortey, has officially announced the list of beneficiaries for its SRC Scholarship Support Programme, an initiative aimed at easing the financial burden of academically outstanding but economically disadvantaged students.
Following a highly competitive selection process, 33 students have been awarded scholarships, with some receiving full tuition coverage and others receiving partial support.
Selection Process & Eligibility
The application window ran from January 25 to February 10, 2025, after which shortlisted candidates underwent interviews on February 12, 2025.
Following a rigorous evaluation process, the final list of successful applicants was released on February 15, 2025.
To qualify, applicants were required to demonstrate genuine financial need, maintain strong academic performance, and not be recipients of any other scholarship.
The SRC emphasised that the selection process was conducted with the utmost fairness and transparency to ensure that only the most deserving students were chosen.
Impact of the Initiative
Speaking on the initiative, SRC President Abraham Norman Nortey reaffirmed the council’s commitment to student welfare, emphasizing that the scholarship program aligns with its broader vision of academic empowerment and equal opportunities.
Beneficiaries of the programme expressed immense gratitude, describing it as a life-changing opportunity. One of the recipients, Emmanuel Kyei, who received full sponsorship, shared his excitement, saying:
“This scholarship means everything to me. It allows me to focus entirely on my studies without the stress of financial difficulties,” he said.
Future Support for Students
The SRC has assured students that more financial and academic support initiatives will be introduced in the coming months. It encourages students to stay informed and take advantage of these opportunities when they arise.
The Council also extended its appreciation to the Dean of Students and the Students’ Financial Support Office for their invaluable guidance and support in making this initiative a success.
