The government has announced plans to introduce incentives aimed at encouraging health workers to accept postings to rural areas, Minister of Health Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has revealed.
Speaking at a staff durbar at the Ministry of Health to mark his official assumption of office, Mr. Akandoh emphasized the need to address the critical challenge of healthcare worker distribution across the country.
He assured health workers of his commitment to improving working conditions, particularly for those serving in underserved communities, as part of broader efforts to ensure quality and accessible healthcare for all Ghanaians.
Addressing Sector Challenges
The minister highlighted key issues facing the health sector, including inadequate infrastructure and the growing burden of both infectious and non-communicable diseases.

He called for teamwork and collaboration among staff to help resolve these challenges.
“With your support, I am confident that we will overcome challenges in the health sector and achieve the goal of ‘One Health’ for the country,” Mr. Akandoh stated.
Call for Professionalism
Meanwhile, the Chief Director of the Ministry of Health, Alhaji Hafiz Adam, urged ministry staff to maintain professionalism and uphold the principles of neutrality, loyalty, and fairness in their work.
He stressed that the efficiency of the ministry depended on the dedication of its workforce and encouraged them to support the minister in implementing policies that would drive progress in the health sector.
The government’s pledge to introduce rural incentives signals a renewed focus on bridging the healthcare gap between urban and remote areas, a move expected to improve service delivery across the country.
