The question of whether Ghana has record labels has been rekindled by Ghanaian highlife crooner Kwabena Kwabena.

In an interview with Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, the “Adult Music” hitmaker questioned the claim that record labels exist in Ghana’s music industry.

“Are there record labels in Ghana?” was his response when asked if he would agree to sign to a Ghanaian label if the terms were favorable.

“No, no, no. “I apologize that Ghana does not have a record label,” he remarked.

Similar to Kwabena Kwabena, some individuals think that many music corporations that are labeled as record labels are actually just businesses that handle and promote music. According to him, the majority of these organizations are not record labels in the traditional sense; rather, they merely offer label services.

Some have claimed that a record’s size is irrelevant to its operations because businesses around the world vary in size and scope but often perform essentially the same tasks.

Record labels include, but are not limited to, RuffTown Records, Flip the Music, SarkCess Music, MicBurnerz Music, Lynx Entertainment, Black Avenue Musik, SarkCess Music, and Lynx Entertainment.
