Nigerian music star and record producer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has once again raised the flag of Nigeria high by winning the Best African Music Performance award at the 67th Grammy Awards.
Tems clinched the award over fellow music superstars Yemi Alade with “Tomorrow,” Asake’s “MMS” featuring Wizkid, Chris Brown’s “Sensational” featuring Davido, and Burna Boy’s “Higher,” marking her second Grammy victory.
In an emotional acceptance speech, Tems expressed her gratitude to God, her family, and her team for their continued support towards her dreams and career and winning her second Grammys. Many fans and well-wishers took to social media to congratulate her, including her contender Davido.

In a post on his X account, Davido congratulated Tems with the words, “Congratulations to my one and only GOAT @chrisbrown! And to the Queen @temsbaby. We are proud of you.”
Tems rose to prominence after being featured on Wizkid’s 2020 single “Essence,” which peaked at number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart following the release of the remix version with Justin Bieber.
The song earned her a Grammy Award nomination. That same year, she was featured on the song “Fountains” by Canadian rapper Drake. After releasing her debut extended play, “For Broken Ears,” and signing a record deal with RCA Records, Tems made a significant milestone in her career when she won her first-ever Grammy award for Best Melodic Rap Performance with her song “Wait for U,” which topped charts.
Tems remains one of the biggest female Nigerian songstresses, putting African music on the map with numerous accolades, including Grammy Awards, Billboard Women in Music Awards, BET Awards, and NAACP Image Awards, among others.
