Reggie Rockstone contends that monogamy was forced onto African culture, challenging Western standards. Is this going too far, or is it time to reconsider our customs? Tell us what you think.
Reggie Rockstone, a legendary musician from Ghana, has expressed his opinions on monogamy in African culture.
The Hiplife Grandpapa asserted in an interview with Class TV that the notion of a guy having a single lady is alien and not in line with African customs.
He maintained that Christianization and Westernization forced the idea of monogamy on Africans.
“I know it’s not African; I could tell you that for sure. It doesn’t seem to apply to us. We’ve been so Christianised and Westernised now. But I really believe that it doesn’t really move with our culture. I mean, it was imposed on us,” he said.
Known for being a one-woman guy, Rockstone ascribed his monogamous behavior to his personality rather than societal norms. He clarified that he values his mental health and that keeping up several relationships would be too taxing.
“The reason why I’m a one-woman man is my personality. You know, it’s too much headache for me. I like my peace of mind,” he added.
Numerous well-known people and religious leaders have endorsed polygamy in African culture.
No animal has a single wife, so it defies logic for a man to limit himself to just one woman, according to the well-known divine figure Dag Heward-Mills, who is also the founder and presiding bishop of the United Denomination, which has its roots in the Lighthouse Group of Churches.

He cited 1 Corinthians 11:14 (KJV), which states: “Doth not even nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair it is a shame unto him?” He added, “Nature even supports polygamy; there is no animal that has only one wife.”Then he said, “Which goat has a single wife? What dog only has one wife? Bishop Heward-Mills went on to say that it is astounding that the majority of the saints and martyrs that Christians revere had numerous wives, despite their opposition to polygamy.
