Following criticism for producing erroneous news alerts, Apple is halting AI notification summaries for its news and entertainment apps. To further promote openness, the business is also making adjustments to notification summaries in general.
According to the most recent developer previews for iOS 18.3, iPadOS 18.3, and macOS Sequoia 15.3, Apple is completely turning off notification summaries for all news and entertainment apps. After making necessary adjustments, they will re-enable them in a later update.
The modification was made a few weeks after the BBC complained to Apple about an item that falsely claimed that Luigi Mangione, the man accused of killing Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare, had shot himself.
To help users distinguish notification summaries from regular notifications, all notification summaries will now be displayed in italics in addition to being pulled for specific apps. Additionally, users will get the option to turn off notification summaries for a particular app right from their lock screen.
When customers activate the notification summaries feature, Apple will also begin alerting them that it is a beta version. Users will be alerted by this message in the Settings app that there may be issues with the feature.

The modifications are not shocking because Apple announced last week that it would publish an update to “further clarify” that Apple Intelligence is responsible for creating the wording that appears in a notification summary. Some people thought this might take the shape of a new badge or label, but as of right now, that hasn’t happened.
Although a public beta is anticipated to be released the next week, the general public’s access to iOS 18.3 is yet unknown.
