The Electoral Commission in the Central Region yesterday received electoral materials for the 2024 presidential election.
The materials for all 23 constituencies arrived at the Central Regional Police Headquarters in Cape Coast on Tuesday night and underwent inspection by political party agents and Electoral Commission officials under tight police protection.
According to officials, the ballot papers will remain under 24-hour police custody until they are ready for distribution on election day.
Last week, materials for the parliamentary elections were also delivered to the region.
Political party representatives expressed satisfaction with the process, describing it as smooth and transparent.
Mr. Richard Takyi Mensah, Central Regional Secretary for the governing New Patriotic Party, stated that everything matched the provided details and commended the peaceful inspection process.
He added that the party’s campaign was progressing successfully across the region, expressing optimism about winning a majority of parliamentary seats and securing victory for their presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
“Where we are now, we remain focused and we have about 18 or 17 days to election and our objective and our preoccupation is to retain Agona West.”He stated.
“We’ve made the effort, we’ve done all that we could to talk to her. She is still going as an independent candidate. The NPP candidate, Agona West, in the person of Mr Chris Arthur, is doing marvelously well campaigning and we are all behind him and inshallah, we are going to retain the Agona West within a wider margin…We are focused on retaining the seat.”

Similarly, Professor Vincent Assanful, Chairman of the University of Cape Coast branch of the opposition National Democratic Congress, shared his satisfaction with the process.
He said he took charge of the Awutu Senya East ballot papers and from the data “it corresponds with what was brought and so, so far, so good. We are okay with the process as at this point.”
Professor Assanful expressed confidence in the NDC’s campaign strategies, predicting that the party could secure 17 out of the 23 parliamentary seats in the region.
He said “We have a target of taking 70% seats out of the 23 seats that we have in the region and so far the campaign is proceeding very well. We are doing door to door and we are very confident that we will achieve that target.”
