The Electoral Commission has released a summary of the 2024 certified voters register which provides a breakdown of the categories of voters as captured in the register.
According to the EC, there are 18 million, seven hundred and seventy-four thousand, one hundred and fifty-nine valid voters for the upcoming elections.
This was contained in a press release dated November 11, 2024, and signed by the Deputy Commissioner in charge of Operations, Mr. Samuel Tettey.
The EC said eighteen million, six hundred forty thousand, eight hundred and eleven voters are on the biometric register and will be verified biometrically on Election Day.
The breakdown also shows a total of one hundred and thirty-one thousand, four hundred and seventy-eight special voters for the December 7 elections.
Also, one thousand eight hundred and seventy voters on the Electoral Commission’s Register have no biometric data and will be verified manually on Election Day.
There are twenty-six thousand, five hundred and sixty-nine multiple registrations and two thousand, one hundred and forty-one proxy voters on the register.
Three hundred and ten thousand, five hundred and seventy-nine voters transferred their votes from one constituency to another.
The Electoral Commission however states that eight hundred and eighty-four voters were excluded from the Absent Voters after their respective polling stations were closed.
The Commission cited the inability of the polling stations to meet the minimum threshold of voters for operation or upon request from the communities as the reasons behind the closure.
The Commission, however, assures that the records of these voters are maintained within the Voter Management System to ensure full accountability.
