Former Ghana’s Most Beautiful pageant Sally Akua Amoakowaa, popularly known as Akua GMB has expressed her regret about getting married at a young age.
According to Akua, marrying at the age of 22 wasn’t the best of decisions since she was still discovering herself as an individual.
In a recent interview, former beauty queen Akua GMB shared that, given the chance, she would not have married at 22. Reflecting on her past, she admitted that she feels she married too young, before fully experiencing life or getting to know herself.

Akua GMB indicates that if she had the opportunity to change something about herself, it’d be her marriage at the age of 22 years.
“If I could go back and change something from a decade ago, it would be my decision to get married. I sometimes think I married too early, at just 22,” she explained. “Back then, I didn’t really know who I was. I hadn’t explored the world or truly understood myself, so it wasn’t the best choice for me.”
Now the CEO of Jewel Fashion, Akua emphasized that while she doesn’t discourage young women from marrying early, they should make sure they know themselves and understand what marriage involves.
“If someone believes she knows who she is, understands what she’s committing to, and is ready for the responsibilities of marriage, then absolutely, she can go ahead,” Akua noted.
Akua GMB married Dr. Kweku Oteng shortly after winning the 2011 Ghana’s Most Beautiful pageant. They were married for nearly eight years, ending in 2019, and share three children.
