2nd lady of Ghana, Mrs. Samira Bawumia has underscored the need for the country to adopt sustainable practices across all sectors as we confront the global threat of climate change.
Speaking at the SHS Renewable Energy Challenge organized by the Energy Commission of Ghana, she noted that the event showcases Ghana’s dedication to building a strong future with renewable energy and care for the environment.
The 2nd Lady pointed out that renewable energy technology such as solar, wind and biogas are not just sources of power but are keys to preserving the ecosystem, reducing the carbon footprint and ensuring greener future generations.
The SHS Renewable Energy Challenge was themed “The Application of Renewable Energy Technology in Solving Land Degradation and Water Pollution.”
The 2nd lady described the theme as timely and critical to the nation’s future.
To her, the theme highlights the environmental challenges the country faces and the role of renewable energy in solving them.
She commended the students on a job well done for putting in efforts to find solutions to issues in the community by using resources around them.
“I encourage you to be inspired to continue doing great things for yourselves and your country,” she said “Turn your challenges into opportunities, keep learning and keep innovating…But remember after all the best ideas are those that solve real problems in our communities and beyond.
Mrs. Samira Bawumia commended the energy commission for the noble initiative, especially in the area of clean cooking and urged them to keep up the good work.
“Thus a few weeks ago I had the pleasure and honour of visiting Nkoranza Technical Institute to commission the new improved institutional cookstove kitchen which is an initiative of the Energy Commission as part of its corporate social responsibility.”
“I look forward to our continued partnership to provide more senior high schools with these modern efficient biomass kitchens.… These Kitchens aim to promote clean cooking technologies by reducing firewood reliance, improving air quality and supporting environmental sustainability.”
She further commended Ghana Education Service, Ghana TVET and the Energy Commission for their collaboration in providing renewable energy education through the competition.
