Former president and flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has raised concerns about the feasibility of the Agenda 111 initiative, which was introduced by the current administration to construct hospitals in every district across the country.
In a press briefing during his campaign tour of the Bono Region, Mahama explained why he believes the policy is unrealistic, citing a lack of funding as the primary challenge.
He further assured Ghanaians that if his party is voted into office, they will complete all uncompleted projects, including those under Agenda 111.
“You know, if you start so many projects at the same time with no dedicated funding, what will happen is that there will be a lot of uncompleted hospital projects by the end of their term.”
I have seen many of them—roofed and plastered but no windows, no doors, no equipment—nothing. And there’s no dedicated funding from the government of Ghana for the projects,” he said.
“But I have said that we’re not going to stop any projects. We’ll let them continue any ongoing project. But we have to create the fiscal space to fund the projects until they are completed. By the end of their term, I don’t believe they can complete even 10 or 15 of the hospitals.”
