The flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has called on party members to actively engage in the nationwide demonstration scheduled for Tuesday, September 17, aimed at the Electoral Commission (EC).
This rally is in response to unresolved concerns regarding irregularities in the voters register.
“Our National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has announced the party’s plan to organise demonstrations at all EC offices across the country to put pressure on the commission to resolve irregularities on the Provisional Voters Register (PVR).”
On September 17, the NDC plans to hold demonstrations in every town that hosts an EC office, as stated by the party chairman. He urged supporters to don their NDC party T-shirts and head out to protest at the EC offices.
On Monday, September 9, 2024, Mr. Nketiah declared a nationwide demonstration following his submission of the presidential nomination forms for Mr. Mahama.
Endorsement
During a four-day tour of the Bono Region, Mr. Mahama endorsed the party’s decision made on Monday at Sampa. He stated that the demonstration aimed to exert pressure on the Electoral Commission to tackle issues related to the voters’ register, ensuring that elections are conducted peacefully and transparently.
The party reported discovering multiple irregularities in the voters’ register issued by the Electoral Commission, indicating that these issues require resolution.
The former President stated that the party had lodged multiple complaints, yet “nobody is paying attention to our request or demand”.
Mr. Mahama stated that the upcoming demonstration aims to highlight the need for the Electoral Commission to address the irregularities before the general election on December 7.

Economy

Mr. Mahama asserted that he departed from office in 2016 with a robust economy, which he claims has since been driven to bankruptcy due to mismanagement by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.
The former President called on the chiefs and residents of Sampa to support the NDC in pursuit of positive change.
During his administration, he emphasized his efforts to foster development in the region, highlighting the establishment of the Sampa Nursing Training College, various water projects, and the expansion of electricity as notable accomplishments of his previous government.
Mr. Mahama has made a commitment to build the Berekum-Sampa road, Sampa-Seikwa road, and Sampa-Wenchi road, along with the roads within Sampa town, should he be elected. This initiative aims to facilitate the efficient transportation of cashew nuts from the farm gates.
Clergy
Mr. Mahama engaged with the Clergy in Sunyani, the capital of the Bono region, where he encouraged them to voice their concerns and challenge poor governmental decisions without fear.
He noted that during his time in office, the Clergy were vocal in their criticism, yet they have remained silent under the current administration.
In Jinijini, located within the Berekum West District, he emphasized that the current economic situation in the country requires the expertise of someone with his experience to tackle the pressing challenges facing the nation.
During a visit to Asiri in the Jaman North District, he made a commitment to establish a cashew processing factory aimed at handling the significant amount of cashew production in the region.
