The Environmental Health Officer of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly, Mr Iddrisu Shanni is urging residents to strictly adhere to the Covid 19 protocols as the death toll in the metropolis keeps soaring.
Currently, there are 12 covid-19 deaths recorded from two health facilities in the metropolis with the youngest being a 27year old. This was revealed by Mr. Iddrisu Shanni after his office undertook the burial of the first 4 of the 12 causalities last Friday.

In an interview with ATLFMNews, Mr Shanni indicated that continuous disregard for Covid 19 protocols could result in a rise of casualties in the metropolis and as such called on residents to be responsible.
“”Since the pandemic started, we were focused on the preventive aspect which included the education and the enforcement of the hygiene protocols. Everything was going well until the deaths started coming in. since the deaths started, it has been coming in routinely. We have made preparations to bury all the corpses. The only way to end the deaths depends on all of us. If we continue to disregard all the protocols they have given us and behave as though there is nothing at stake, then we should be prepared for more deaths” he advised.
Since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, education, enforcement and adjustment to the new normal of living have been the order of the day. However, the majority of residents within the metropolis are usually seen not adhering to the protocols.
Mr Shanni said it has, therefore, become necessary for his office to begin exposing some realities of the existence of the pandemic in the metropolis.
“Next time when we are going to bury the dead, we drive through the markets for people to see for themselves. When they do, it will increase their sense of urgency to adhere to the safety rules given by authority” he explained
