Gospel singer Esther Smith has revealed a touching and motivational account of her birth.

The gospel singer revealed how her mother almost had an abortion when she was still a student and became pregnant in an interview with Nana Romeo on Accra FM.

Esther Smith claims that when her grandmother’s sister saw her mother en route to the doctor to terminate the pregnancy, she raised the alarm and her father eventually intervened to stop her mother.

“My mother was a school girl when she was pregnant with me. She was going to abort me at Komfo Anokye because she was scared of her father because she was the only child.

“So, on her way, she met her mother’s sister who asked her where she was going. The woman followed her until she confessed her intentions to her. My father did not also like the idea of giving birth. So the woman reported to my father that my mother was going to abort me and she was stopped.

“She confessed that she had taken a lot of drugs to help with the abortion but none of them worked,” she narrated on Thursday, August 29.

The singer said this while talking candidly about her gift for singing and remarked that it is an intrinsic ability that she had from childhood.

According to Esther Smith, her mother was informed by a pastor that she would rise to prominence in Ghana following that incident.

“My mother said she met a pastor who told her that the baby she is carrying would grow to become useful to Ghana. So, when God started lifting me, she told me about the story,” she added.
