As part of its 50th anniversary celebration, Elmina Polyclinic has commissioned a new surgical ward named in honor of Nana Kodwo Conduah VI, the Paramount Chief of the Edina Traditional Area.

During the commissioning ceremony, Nana Kodwo Conduah VI urged residents and all individuals in the area to show respect and support for the health officers at the polyclinic.

Expressing his heartfelt gratitude to the government for facilitating the project, he acknowledged Mrs. Samira Bawumia, the Second Lady of Ghana, for her presence at the event.

“I am deeply grateful to the government for this initiative and to Mrs. Samira Bawumia for gracing us with her presence today. I encourage everyone to work in harmony with the health professionals here to ensure that high-quality healthcare is delivered effectively in our constituency,” Nana Kodwo Conduah VI said.

The Second Lady of Ghana, Samira Bawumia, stressed the importance of upgrading the nation’s healthcare infrastructure to attract medical tourism and stimulate economic growth.

Speaking at the commissioning, Mrs. Bawumia emphasized that improved healthcare facilities would not only serve local communities but also draw international patients, benefiting the country’s economy.

“Nana Chair, witnessing progress in any sector is always encouraging. The truth is, development across various sectors, especially healthcare, contributes to a stronger and more resilient economy. The government is committed to enhancing healthcare delivery through the agenda 1.1.1. Attracting medical tourism from other countries will boost economic activities significantly. Improved healthcare is crucial for accelerating development in any region,” she stated.

Mrs. Bawumia assured the constituency and assembly members of government’s commitment to maintaining the new facility and ensuring it is staffed with skilled professionals.

“I am confident in the Assembly’s dedication to maintaining this facility and its equipment. As we inaugurate this facility, I renew the government’s commitment to improving healthcare for everyone,” she added.

She also praised the healthcare professionals at the polyclinic, acknowledging their dedication and urged the community to embrace the new facility as a symbol of progress and quality care.

“I commend the hard-working staff of the hospital, who are truly dedicated to their work. Thank you for your efforts; they are greatly appreciated. I encourage everyone to see this new facility as a beacon of hope and progress. Together, we can build a healthier future with access to quality healthcare for all,” Mrs. Bawumia concluded.

Dr. Felix Darby, Superintendent of Elmina Polyclinic, highlighted the significance of the new surgical ward, expressing confidence that it would help reduce the high rates of stillbirths, detailing that the facility would offer a wide range of surgical services to improve regional healthcare.

“With government support and the Municipal Assembly’s assistance, we now have a fully equipped surgical theatre to meet the needs of the KEEA and surrounding areas. This theatre is essential for improving maternal care. Previously, women requiring emergency surgeries had to be transferred to Cape Coast, which sometimes resulted in adverse outcomes.”

“This new facility will address that issue and provide comprehensive surgical services, including cesarean sections, fibroid surgeries, hernias, and more,” Dr. Darby explained.

Solomon Ebo Appiah, the Municipal Chief Executive of the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem Constituency, also spoke at the event, expressing his profound satisfaction with the project’s completion, calling it a historic and timely development.

“This initiative addresses critical maternal needs and provides essential surgical care to our community. It is a significant milestone for us,” Mr. Appiah noted.
