A group of women in the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abirem Municipality (KEEA) has expressed appreciation to the leadership of National Democratic Congress (NDC) on the appointment of Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as running mate.
Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang who was confirmed as the running mate for John Dramani Mahama on Monday July 6th 2020, hails from Komenda in the KEEA Municipality in the Central Region.
Earlier, Queen Mothers in the Komenda Traditional Area had also issued a press statement to congratulate her on her nomination.
The women who gathered at the Komenda Taxi Station could not hide their joy as they were full of praises to God and the NDC for changing the status quo and giving recognition to women.
Speaking at the gathering, paramount queen mother of the Komenda Traditional Area, Nana Adwoa Badu II noted that the choice of Professor Opoku-Agyemang had brought glory to her and the Komenda town at large.
“I am so excited that the NDC chose Naana Opoku-Agyemang as the running mate for John Dramani Mahama, I know she is capable of becoming the President in future after John Mahama. She has really brought us glory, not to me and the traditional council alone but to the entire Komenda community”, the visibly excited Queen Mother stated.
The appointment of Prof Opoku-Agyemang has sparked conversations on women empowerment and gender equality. However, others have also made several derogatory comments about her which Nana Badu II describes as unfortunate.
“She is not what her opponents are claiming. She is from Komenda and we know her if they don’t know they should find out. What a man can do, Naana can also do exceedingly”.
Also, at the ceremony, the KEEA Women’s Organizer for the National Democratic Congress, Mabel Quayson said the appointment has brought satisfaction to women and called on ladies to support her.
“We appreciate our mother Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang and we thank the former president for appointing her. I’m very grateful because like Kwegyir Aggrey said if you educate a man you educate an individual but if you educate a woman, you educate an entire nation”, she added.
The Women Organiser added “All women will be at peace and satisfied because she is a mother for all. I’m pleading with all Ghanaians to rally behind this woman in the upcoming December elections. We are very hopeful she will not disappoint us.”

Some persons who spoke to ATL FM News said although she is a woman, they are confident she will be able to exceed the expectations of many. They also urged her critics, particularly women to shun the attitude of running fellow women down.
