Former President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to establish an annual National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, aimed at uniting all faiths in expressing gratitude and seeking divine guidance for Ghana.
During a meeting with religious leaders in Ho, Volta Region, Mahama highlighted the significance of thanksgiving in all situations, drawing on biblical teachings and international practices.
He recounted his experiences at national thanksgiving and prayer events in countries like the United States and Zambia, which inspired his proposal for a similar tradition in Ghana.
Mahama noted, “While hard work is essential to improve our circumstances, it is equally important to seek spiritual support. From my experiences abroad, I have seen the benefits of national days dedicated to prayer and thanksgiving. We plan to introduce this practice in Ghana as well.”
He emphasized that this initiative aims to invoke divine blessings and prosperity for the nation stating that, by holding a national day of prayer, we will unite both Christian and Muslim communities to collectively seek God’s favor for Ghana’s prosperity.”
