Vybz Kartel, the dancehall sensation, has been released after spending 13 years in prison.
He walked out of the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre in downtown Kingston on Wednesday evening, following a decision by the Court of Appeal not to retry him and his co-accused for the murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams.
Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, along with Shawn ‘Shawn Storm’ Campbell, Kahira Jones, and Andre St John, had been convicted in 2014 for the September 2011 murder of Williams.
Their legal team appealed to the local Court of Appeal in 2020, but their convictions were upheld.
Vybz Kartel, born Adidja Azim Palmer on January 7, 1976, in Kingston, Jamaica, has made an indelible mark on the world of dancehall music.
