President Akufo-Addo has charged the newly appointed 16 judges to be judicious in their decisions, emphasizing their decisions have a long-term impact on their rulings in society.
According to the President, the decisions judges make in their line of duty not only have an impact on the parties before them but also on the broader society.
He advised the judges during their swearing-in to office to strengthen the judicial system and uphold the integrity of the rule of law in the country.
The occasion underscores the government’s interest in ensuring that both men and women who are qualified and eligible can make major decisions for the nation, operate Ghana’s judicial system and are carefully selected as judges in the various court systems.
In his address, President Akuffo Addo expressed that Legal Expertise Alone is not enough for the judges’ work and the task before them is not easy.
“The task before you is thus not an easy one…You’ll be called upon to interpret complex legal issues, determine disputes, and at times make difficult decisions that may not always be popular. It is a role that requires not just legal expertise, but also a deep sense of justice, empathy, and a resolve to maintain the highest ethical standards.”
The newly appointed justice of the Court of Appeal, Justice Gyamfi Dankwa thanked the president for his selection of justices and assured him of their commitment to work diligently as judges of the various court systems in the country.
“We shall do our best not to disappoint Ghanaians and do our work faithfully and diligently,” he said.
