In the wake of the current brouhaha ensuing between madam Afia Akoto and musician, Kwame A Plus, she has filed a suit and sought for GH5 million damages for defamation.
In a viral video, Kwame A-Plus was seen making allegations that she had allegedly sent her nude pictures to Maxwell Mensah, Nana Ama Mc Brown’s husband.
He alleged in the said video that he ensured that her alleged immoral activity wouldn’t come out in the public and dent the image of president Akufo-Addo.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Adepa Group of Companies, which specializes in importing cosmetic products and groceries, is seeking GH 5 million in damages for defamation, including exemplary and punitive damages.
Additionally, the former Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) is requesting a perpetual injunction to prevent A-Plus from making further allegedly defamatory statements.

In a writ of summons issued on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, the Plaintiff seeks four main reliefs from the Court, including an order for the hiplife artist to retract his defamatory comments.
According to her Statement of Claims attached to the writ, A-Plus, who has announced his intention to run as an Independent Parliamentary Candidate for the Gomoa Central Constituency, made statements that Afia Akoto claims were defamatory.
The former Deputy Director of Communication for the New Patriotic Party from 2012 to 2016, who is now part of the campaign team for the party’s presidential candidate for the 2024 elections, is requesting the following reliefs:

She alleges that A-Plus (Defendant) maliciously made statements with the intent to damage her reputation, lower her integrity, and incite public disaffection towards her.
She also contends that the Defendant’s statements have caused emotional and psychological distress to her university-aged children, adversely affecting their studies.

The Plaintiff accuses the Defendant of making these statements to gain political advantage, boost his social media following, and garner support for his parliamentary campaign.
Reliefs Sought:
i. A declaration that the statements made in A-Plus’s Facebook posts on July 12, 2024, which are referenced in paragraphs 9 and 12 of the Statement of Claim, are defamatory of the Plaintiff.
ii. An award of GHS 5,000,000.00 (Five Million Ghana Cedis) for defamation, including exemplary and punitive damages.
iii. A perpetual injunction preventing the Defendant from further publishing or causing to be published any defamatory statements about the Plaintiff.
iv. An order for the Defendant to retract the defamatory statements made in the Facebook posts of July 12, 2024, and issue an apology to the Plaintiff in the same medium and with equal prominence.
