The University Primary School, South Campus has organized a cultural exchange and a fundraiser day for their 60th anniversary celebrations scheduled to climax in September.
The event was aimed at raising funds to support the school in some lacking facilities and give the school the adequate support it needs for students and staff.
Speaking to ATL FM NEWS on the sidelines of the event, the headteacher of the University Primary School South Campus, Mrs. Georgina Aglobitse raised concerns about the lack of funding for major projects the school is embarking on.
One such project is a 40-seater multi and ultra-modern washroom.
“Hygiene is very dear to us in this age and time and with a population of over 1,400 plus getting to 1,500 we need adequate washrooms for the children so the PTA started a project but we have challenges with funding to complete the project so as a school it’s for us so we are thinking of that,” she continued.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Georgina Aglobitse admitted the school has needs and inadequate facilities which sometimes disrupts the operations and smooth running of the school.
She noted that this year’s anniversary celebrations would be exciting if the financial support from parents and the university community is increased.
She cited the need for a playground and multi-purpose space where students could have fun, exercise and serve as a meeting ground for functions.
“We are restricted with what we can do there and an area where we can also have our meeting. Behind our administration block is a vast land that is always breeding mosquitoes. There has been some filling and we are looking for funds to make it a multi-purpose ground so that children can play there and then the weeds are regulated. And then when we want to have other meetings and gatherings, we can have it there as well.”
The headmistress commended the massive support from the parents and guests who graced the occasion and appreciated them for their commitment both in cash and with their presence.
She however called on other stakeholders to support the university primary school to make the 60th anniversary a success.
