Musician Okyeame Kwame from Ghana has spoken candidly about how difficult it was to get back together with Okyeame Kofi for the once-phenomenal musical combo “Akyeame.”
Together, Okyeame Kwame and Okyeame Kofi formed the “Akyeame” group in the mid-1990s, which elevated hiplife both inside and outside of Ghana.
Hit songs like “M’asan aba” and “Bra Me Tsen” were among the ones the group recorded. They went on to become the first hip-hop group to win multiple prizes, including the Ghana Music prizes.
Nevertheless, they called it quits in 2004 after putting out four albums.
When discussing the prospect of reuniting on TV3’s Afternoon Show on Wednesday, July 3, Okyeame Kwame clarified that while they had recently recorded some songs together, they have not yet committed a significant amount of time to working on their projects.
According to him, the fact that they each have distinct goals these days makes it harder for them to join together and form the popular group Akyeame.
He did point out that occasionally they do perform at shows.

“We have done some recordings; the difficult thing is putting it out but once we put it out and then what. If we put it out then we must stop whatever we are doing and chase it together and now play shows together, to do stuffs together.
“I think that we have not both not come to terms with how important it is and how fun that would be but sometimes I call Emma on stage to perform like the VGMA, I was supposed to perform M’asan aba with him but he had an emergency,” he noted.
