It was joyous at the Nkanfoa Unity Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana as the second batch of students graduated from the Daniel Ntow Obesse Children and Youth Resource Centre at Nkanfoa, Cape Coast.
The graduates, two males and eight females, were awarded certificates for proficiency in ICT and Basic computational thinking for completing the training programme.
In his speech, the chairman of the DNO Children and Youth ICT Training Centre, Rev. Prof. Kwasi Otopa Antiri urged the graduates to remain curious, stay updated, and continue to sharpen the skills gained from the centre.
He emphasized the importance of ICT to the development of the youth and the country at large adding that they are great ambassadors to the ICT centre.
“You have not only gained technical skills, but have also developed critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and a passion for continuous learning. These qualities will serve you well as you embark on the next chapter of your lives.”
Rev. Antiri acknowledged the coordinator and secretary to the DNOCYRC, Chartered HR and the centre’s teachers for their commitment to providing an excellent education to the students.
He said, “Their passion for student success has been instrumental in shaping the future of our graduates.”
Mr. George Amfo-Antri, the board secretary of the DNO Foundation, explained that the training programme involves a 15-week programme that handles some basic computing and ICT skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, typing, PowerPoint and Scratch (an app for developing games).
According to him, their curriculum has been approved by the University of Cape Coast with the assessment criteria comprising assignments, presentations and examinations.
He added that students are graded over a study period of 15 weeks with a pass mark to meet the requirement for graduation.
He therefore expressed hope to create in young people, the passion to pursue careers in ICT and urged stakeholders, particularly parents to support.
Participants in the DNOCY ICT training programme who spoke to ATLFMNEWS expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn valuable skills.
To them, the newfound abilities in using computers to make presentations with PowerPoint, programming with Scratch and for internet searches have improved their ability within the ICT space.
