Eddie Murphy, a seasoned veteran of Hollywood, has graced audiences with countless beloved films over his extensive career. Among these, he particularly treasures his portrayal of Axel Foley in the “Beverly Hills Cop” series.
In a recent interview with Extra tied to the upcoming fourth installment, titled “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F,” Murphy reflected on the groundbreaking impact of the original film.

“Before ‘Beverly Hills Cop,’ there had never been a successful global film starring a Black lead,” Murphy noted.
He highlighted how the franchise paved the way for broader international success for films featuring Black actors, contrasting it with the more localized success often seen with other Black-led films.
Murphy also pointed out that while films like “The Nutty Professor” and “Coming to America” achieved global acclaim, it was “Beverly Hills Cop” that truly broke new ground.

He emphasized its role in setting a precedent that paved the way for actors like Will Smith and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to achieve international success.
Excitedly looking ahead, Murphy confirmed plans for a fifth installment, currently in development with producer Jerry Bruckheimer actively working on the script.
The original film, directed by Martin Brest and released in 1984, not only launched Murphy’s career to new heights but also earned acclaim with an Academy Award nomination for best original screenplay. Its success led to two sequels before the upcoming fourth entry.
The upcoming film, “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F,” set to stream on Netflix starting July 3, reunites Murphy with original cast members Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Paul Reiser, and Bronson Pinchot.
Joining them are newcomers Kevin Bacon, Taylour Paige, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, promising a blend of nostalgia and fresh energy for fans of the iconic franchise.
