The minority caucus has called on government to restore normalcy in healthcare services amidst ongoing strike by medical laboratory professionals in public hospitals.
The minority caucus voiced strong concerns over the government’s handling of health-related issues and the welfare of public health workers during a recent press briefing.
They highlighted the ongoing strike by medical laboratory professionals in public hospitals, emphasizing the impact on patients who are now forced to pay significantly higher fees at private laboratories for essential tests.
Speaking to the media at the press briefing, the ranking member for health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh called for urgent government intervention to address the professionals’ grievances and restore normalcy in healthcare services.
“And so, as a matter of urgency, I believe that government must respond to their call and make sure that these health workers are back to their hospitals because already we have a lot of challenges at the health facilities,” he noted.
Additionally, Mr. Akandoh criticized the government’s prolonged delay in clearing imported drugs at the ports, promising continued advocacy until all shipments are processed and made available for use.
He cautioned that if the situation persists beyond two weeks, the caucus may consider organizing demonstrations to push for swift action.
“As you know, we the members of parliament from the minority side will not relent in our effort to push the government to clear these local commodities and drugs until they are cleared from the ports, and that must be put on record,” he said.
