Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu and leader of the ‘Hands off our Hotels’ campaign, has revealed plans for a second demonstration in Cape Coast.
According to him, there has been an increasing support for another protest, especially from the Central Region where two of the affected hotels—Elmina and Ridge Royal—are located.
He referred to opposition voiced by the Omanhene of the Edina Traditional Council against the sale of the Elmina hotel, warning of an imminent second protest if the President does not heed their demands to halt the sales.
Taking to Facebook on June 20, Ablakwa affirmed his commitment to the cause, announcing the decision to hold a significant protest in the Central Region in response to calls from its people who vehemently oppose the sale of the Elmina Beach Hotel and Ridge Royal Hotel.
He emphasized their resolve to act if President Akufo-Addo does not intervene promptly.
His post concluded with a patriotic sentiment, asserting that such collective action is crucial to safeguard against undue influence, stating, “With this nationalistic determination, state capture shall surely be defeated. Don’t mess with the power of the people! For God and Country, Ghana First.”
This follows the initial protest in which he led demonstrators demanding the government stop the sale of 60% shares in four SSNIT-owned hotels to Rock City Hotel, owned by Minister of Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong.
