Renowned female rapper Eno Barony has been transparent about her musical career since her early years.
Hit tracks “God Is a Woman,” “Wats Ma Name,” and “Tonga,” a 2014 remix of Joey B and Sarkodie’s “Tonga,” are Eno Barony’s most well-known compositions.
Given that the gifted rapper was raised in a Christian environment and was the daughter of a minister, it was expected of her to work in religious ministry and the choir at her church.
However, at the age of 15, Eno Barony made the decision to pursue her passion and desire by entering a rap competition.
In an interview with Citi TV, headquartered in Accra, she recalled how her winning entry was turned into a television advertisement that her parents happened to watch one day.
Eno Barony described her experience and how her father’s response when he saw her daughter rap for the first time did not set well with him.

She remembered that when she went on live TV as the daughter of a minister and started rapping, her father thrashed her for it.
““I popped up on TV one Saturday …My Dad was sleeping in the living room and I think I went for a competition so my side of the competition was used for the advert…My dad was asleep and my whole family we were watching…everybody was watching because I was 15 and my dad just woke up and asked: Whose voice is that? but then it was done and they wrote showing this and every Saturday at 5 pm,” she said.
She continued; “It was a Saturday Morning … so at 5 pm he sat and watched me perform… after that, I was lashed because I was a reverend Minister’s daughter and I went to do rap music wearing a short skirt”.
In 2021, Eno Barony made history as the first female musician from Ghana to win the 3Music Awards’ Rapper of the Year title.
At the 2020 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards [VGMA] and, more recently, the Telecel Ghana Music Awards [TGMA], she was also awarded Best Rap Performance of the Year.
