The Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday detained street-pop musician Habeeb Okikiola, also known as Portable, for reportedly not paying the debt he incurred after buying his G-Wagon from an auto dealer.

The musician was taken into custody when he failed to pay the remaining N14 million on a G-Wagon he had bought from an auto dealer, which was valued N27 million.

It was said that he refused to pay the remaining N14 million, only having paid N13 million.

The musician had tried to avoid arrest before being brought to the station.

Portable and many police officers were seen outside a building in a now-viral footage. After his arrest warrant was presented, the singer tried to jump over the gate in an attempt to flee.

Four police officers were seen fighting with Portable in another video as they loaded him into a waiting car.

Benjamin Hudenyin, the Lagos State Police Command spokesman, confirmed Portable’s arrest to Nigeria’s Vanguard. The singer had been taken into custody.

“Yes, he’s with us. A vehicle dealer has lodged a complaint against him.

“If he gets a reliable surety, he will be granted bail,” said the police spokesman.

The singer has also been arrested before. He was detained by the Ogun police in March of last year on suspicion of assault.
