The University of Cape Coast has inaugurated a temporary new taxi station to aid the work of taxi drivers on the university campus.
The new taxi station is located along the school bus road opposite the executive Hostel to solve congestion issues experienced at the old taxi station.
Therefore, all the taxis operating on the university campus are expected to relocate to the temporary new taxi station.
During the inauguration, the Director for Human Resource at the University of Cape Coast, Reverend Isaac Baafi Sarbeng admonished the Taxi drivers to utilize the new facility effectively recognizing the challenges of adapting to a new location.
He further urged the drivers to work in unity and observe the road traffic regulations on the university campus.
The Director at the Directorate of Consular and General Services (DLCGS-UCC), Mrs. Alberta Yaa Graham reiterated that the university has no intentions of crippling the business of the taxi drivers.
She emphasized that the university is appreciative of the taxi driver’s work on campus over the years.
She indicated that owing to their relocation, drivers should maintain the sanitary conditions of the new taxi station.
The secretary for the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) Cape Coast, Mr. Emmanuel Arhin expressed appreciation to the university for the opportunity given to them to work on campus.
He said the drivers would embrace professionalism and dedication towards the university’s advancement and development.
Mr. Jake Kakra Ewusie, the Assemblymember for the UCC Apewosika-Kokoado-Amamoma electoral area, urged the University management to methodically implement all relocation agreements to prevent any dissatisfaction among the driver unions operating on campus.
He further emphasized the importance of drivers adhering to these agreements to maintain harmony and satisfaction among all parties involved.
