The Nungua Traditional Council says Naa Yoomo Ayemuede, the spouse of Nungua’s Gborbu Wulomo, Nuumo Borketey Laweh Tsuru XXXIII, is actually 16 years old, not 12 as previously mentioned.
At a press conference in Accra on Tuesday, Rev Dr. Daniel Nii Gyasi Ankrah, the Director of Administration at the Office of the Gborbu Wulomo-Shitse, further maintained that there is no physical relationship or marriage involved.
According to him, Naa Yoomo attends a private school, receives proper care, and not engage in typical childhood activities due to her royal duties and preparations.

He emphasized saying “As we have indicated for the past six years she has been performing this particular rite and for that matter, we have the elderly within the community that takes good care of her. She has no friends because she accepts and understands that the task that is ahead for her to perform does not permit her to have a normal child upbringing. It is part of being a royal.”
Nuumo Borketey Laweh Tsuru XXXIII conducted a traditional marriage ceremony with the girl on Saturday, which has stirred controversy and allegations of misunderstanding of local customs and traditions from outsiders.
Photos and videos from the elaborate event, attended by many community members, surfaced on social media, leading to public outrage across Ghana.
During the ceremony, a woman in the Ga language advised the girl on dressing attractively for her husband and instructed her on marital responsibilities, prompting concerns that the marriage might not have been purely symbolic.
Critics have since been calling for the annulment of the marriage and an investigation into Mr. Tsuru’s actions.
