Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Education Service in charge of Management Services, Mr. Stephen Kwaku Owusu has expressed the need for students to get quality education that is desired to build the country’s workforce.
To him, education will help deepen students’ knowledge, sharpen their skills and build their competencies to be relevant to the nation.
Speaking on behalf of the Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum at the 25th Anniversary celebration and 25th Speech and prize-giving Day of Efutu Senior High Technical School, he said government is redefining quality education in the country.
He mentioned that the Education Ministry has established 27 schools with six of them currently in operation now.
“The ministry has resourced, several TVET institutions and we are putting up several stem centres. We’ve introduced practical innovations which include STEMinnovation and these areas are just there to bring to light the consciousness of what we call quality education, building the capacity of our generation and making sure that our children do not just step out of our schools with what they’ve read, but they should be able to do something,” he continued.
Additionally, Mr. Kwaku Owusu noted that students are collectively building their future, however, without the needed skills the future will be bleak.
He therefore urged all to assist in molding students to take up the mantle to progress the nation in the near future.
“So, my dear teachers, I’m encouraging you that whatever you are doing, measure your performance. Sometimes it’s good to make comparison, but it is also good to compare your achievements. What you were able to do yesterday, analyze it, and make sure at least you add a percentage today. Very soon, the regional directors will be signing performance contracts, and what they’ll be doing is have indications, and I believe that one of these indicators will be the performance that you have for 2023 WASSCE”
He also urged the students to study, indicating that government is doing well to support them to achieve their goals.
Headmistress of Efutu Senior High Technical School, Mrs. Wilhelmina Coleman said the development of a quality educational system largely depends on committed teachers’ quality infrastructure, supportive administration, a large pool of learning resources and discipline.
She said since its establishment, the school has been renowned for its rigorous academic programmes, diverse extracurricular activities, and a strong emphasis on character development.
Mrs. Coleman indicated that they aim to ensure students effectively fit into the world of work locally and internationally.
Mrs. Coleman therefore appealed to parents and stakeholders to come to the aid of the school to refurbish the boy’s dormitory which is gradually becoming a death trap for the students.
The theme for the celebration was: Sustaining quality and purposeful practical hands-on education for all: Prospects and challenges.
Parliamentary candidate for the Cape Coast North Constituency, Horace Ekow Ewusie donated an amount of GHS50,000.00 cheque to the school.
During his presentation, he pledged to help the school in diverse ways.
On his part, the Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North, Dr. Kwamina Minta Nyarku called for the support of all stakeholders to make the school great.
He donated a set of jerseys, dustbins and street lights to the school.
