The much-awaited One Student, One Laptop initiative for Senior High School Students is set to be unveiled by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Monday, March 25, 2024.
An initiative has been launched to improve computer literacy and technological skills among young Ghanaians. As part of this effort, the government is providing each senior high school student with a pre-programmed laptop.
Per a statement released by the Ministry of Education, the initiative aligns with the government’s efforts to encourage e-learning and digitalization. This aligns with the government’s strategy to leverage technological advancements in equipping Ghanaian students for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, commonly called the digital age.
The initiative, One Student, One Laptop, has been launched to enhance senior high school education by providing teaching and learning management systems, digital learning content, and educational devices to all senior high and TVET schools nationwide.

Last year, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia announced the government’s dedication to ensuring that every SHS student receives a laptop. This initiative highlights the government’s commitment to secondary education, particularly after implementing free education at that level in 2017.
The laptops are equipped with educational programs, including textbooks, and are specifically designed to be accessible offline throughout the country, even without an internet connection.
The distribution of laptops to SHS students will begin right after the President’s launch event on Monday, March 25th.
