Students are set to benefit from diverse experiences in project management principles and practices, thanks to a new partnership between the University of Cape Coast School of Business and the Project Management Institute of Ghana.
The memorandum of understanding between the two entities is designed to enhance project management education and contribute to developing highly skilled professionals in the field.
A key focus of the MoU includes mentorship and guiding students along with facilitating their exposure to industry practices.
PMI Ghana is dedicated to promoting the adoption of project management practices across all organizations, recognizing it as a crucial skill.
Furthermore, this collaboration aims to assist graduates in identifying job opportunities within their field of study.
Speaking to ATL FM NEWS after the signing ceremony, Prof. John Gartchie Gatsi, the Dean of the School of Business indicated that the responsibility for the country’s rising unemployment rates should not fall on investors alone.
He attributes the challenging hiring and business establishment climate to the economy’s growth rate and calls for efforts from all business sector stakeholders to foster a more robust economy conducive to industrial expansion.
Mr. Frank Owusu Asamoah, President of the Project Management Institute, underscored the importance of the partnership with UCC School of Business in advancing individual careers.
He emphasized that the MoU would serve as a crucial document to improve the quality of teaching and learning, signalling a significant step forward in the field of project management education.
“…So, the students will be well-equipped as we will be bringing members who are in the industry to come and augment the efforts of the teaching and faculty staff to provide them with on-hand industry skills.”
He indicated that PMI, a global organization with 700,000 members has a vision to propagate “the good news of project management to ensure that nationwide, all organizations would embrace and utilize the skill of project management and attribute their success to it.”
According to him, standards for qualifications exist and students of PMI have the option to write certification exams in the comfort of their homes.
“The Institute operates what we call the proctored model of examination taking, so we have what we call examination centres. Apart from these two, the Institute provides the opportunity for exam takers to take the exam in the comfort of their homes or their offices.”
Mr. Owusu Asamoah, commenting on the rising spate of unemployment in the country, stated that people are not finding employment does not mean there are no job opportunities in the country.
He emphasized that job opportunities remain unfulfilled due to a lack of intentional actions from potential candidates
He notes that for job opportunities one needs to be intentional about belonging to a professional body which communicates a sign of seriousness, discipline and commitment which can impact job interviews and career prospects.
