Madonna has complied with a request from the family of Luther Vandross by making an alteration to her tribute performance of “Live to Tell” on her “Celebration Tour.”
The singer removed Vandross’s image from the visual montage, which pays homage to artists who passed away from AIDS-related complications, such as Freddy Mercury and Keith Haring.
Representatives for Madonna informed Entertainment Weekly that the inclusion of Luther Vandross in the montage during a California performance this month, was a mistake the estate contacted Madonna’s tour team to request a correction.
“Luther Vandross passed away in 2005 due to complications from a stroke suffered two years earlier,” a representative for his estate said in a statement to Page Six. “While we appreciate Madonna’s recognition of those lives lost to AIDS, Luther was NEVER diagnosed with AIDS or the HIV Virus.”

The ongoing twelfth concert tour by American singer Madonna, known as the Celebration Tour, is currently visiting cities in North America and Europe with plans for approximately 80 shows.
Beginning on October 14, 2023, at The O2 Arena in London, England, the tour is scheduled to conclude on April 26, 2024, at the Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City, Mexico.
Marking Madonna’s inaugural retrospective tour, it showcases her illustrious four-decade recording career.
Announced via social media on January 17, 2023, following widespread speculation, the tour was accompanied by a promotional video featuring various industry figures like Diplo, Judd Apatow, Jack Black, Lil Wayne, Bob the Drag Queen, Kate Berlant, Larry Owens, Megan Stalter, Eric André, and Amy Schumer, inspired by Madonna’s “Truth or Dare” era.
A Live Nation pre-sale took place on January 19 at 10:00 a.m. local time, with public on-sale starting on January 20 through Ticketmaster.
However, Madonna’s tour plans faced a setback when she contracted a severe bacterial infection in late June, necessitating a multiple-day stay in the intensive care unit.
Consequently, she announced the postponement of the initial North American leg via an Instagram post.
The rescheduled dates were subsequently revealed on August 15, 2023.
