Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is getting a lot of support in key areas important for winning Ghana’s upcoming elections.
This information comes from a recent report by Outcomes International focused on Ten Swing Constituencies.
The report gathered feedback from 977 people in important regions like Greater Accra, Central, and Bono from February 10 to 25, 2024.
According to the findings, Dr. Bawumia is slightly ahead of his main rival, John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and former President.
When looking at the numbers, Dr. Bawumia has 43.5% support, a bit more than Mr. Mahama’s 42.1%. Some folks (6.9%) like other candidates, and a small group (7.4%) haven’t decided yet.
The study shows a tight race, with Dr. Bawumia leading in critical areas crucial for electoral success. Although Mr. Mahama wins in some places like Ablekuma Central and Adentan, Dr. Bawumia is ahead in places like La Dadekotopon and Cape Coast North.
Recent poll changes suggest Dr. Bawumia is catching up to Mr. Mahama, especially after sharing his plans for Ghana. This signals a more intense campaign as both candidates seek more support before the upcoming 2024 General Elections.
Looking back at an earlier survey by well-known research groups including the Centre for Sustainable African Development Initiatives (C-SADI), UK, and The Outcomes International, Ghana, the prediction was in favour of Dr. Bawumia winning the NPP’s flagbearer contest in crucial polls on August 27 and November 4 last year.
