The Electoral Commission (EC) has scheduled an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting today to discuss key issues surrounding the upcoming December 7 elections.
The primary focus of this meeting is to finalize the electoral calendar for the polls.
Though the meeting is set to occur, the two prominent political parties (NPP and NDC) have noted the absence of formal communication from the EC regarding the election calendar.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has specifically voiced apprehensions about certain elements within the publicized calendar which to them is unfavourable.
Mustapha Gbande, the NDC deputy General Secretary, expressed concerns about the lack of effective communication between the EC and political stakeholders.
He criticized the EC for publishing a document in the Daily Graphic, that said stakeholders require official communication directly from the Commission to consider matters affecting the electoral process.
Gbande stressed, “It is imperative for the EC to ensure that all communications are formally relayed to the concerned parties under the appropriate designation, rather than relying on publicized reports. Political parties rely on official correspondence for transparency and accountability”,
While highlighting the importance of secure and direct communication channels to avert possible misinformation, he underscored the need for the EC to uphold transparency and professionalism in their dealings.
The anticipated IPAC meeting aims to address these concerns and foster collaborative discussions between the EC and political parties for a smooth and well-coordinated electoral process leading to the December 7 elections.
