National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has urged party members to concentrate on devising and advancing actionable policies that will catalyze transformative progress for the Ghanaian populace.
He asserts that the objective of displacing the New Patriotic Party (NPP) should be perceived not as a solitary event but as a continual journey towards rejuvenating trust in the nation’s institutions and fortifying the democratic framework.
Mr. Nketia’s call underscores the importance of policy-driven strategies that promise to usher in beneficial changes for the people of Ghana.
He emphasizes the need for the NDC to present a compelling vision for the future that resonates with the aspirations and challenges of the electorate.
This approach, he believes, is crucial for building a robust and inclusive democracy.
Speaking at a Jointly organised 2-day dialogue by the party’s policy think tank, NDC Social Democracy Lab, office of the flag bearer and the party, Mr. Nketia signalled a commitment to addressing systemic issues and ensuring that governance is responsive to the needs of the people.
“After the swearing-in, there must be a clear policy of how to recover the loot because Ghanaians know that our country has been badly looted and our suffering mostly is attributable to the loot that should have gone to investment to grow the economy. We expect a clear road map as to how to restore the confidence of Ghanaians in our state institutions and by extension our democracy,” he said.
Meanwhile, the flagbearer of the party, John Dramani Mahama says he intends to meet all promises he makes.
According to him, the 24-hour economy he promises is the surest way for the country to achieve its significant economic expansion.
He remarked that the 24-hour economy has offered hope to the increasingly “restless and despondent population.”
The former president asserts that “the mismanagement Ghanaians remain under the Akuffo Addo- Bawumia administration which has plunged them into suffering will soon give way to more prudent and forward-looking programs.”
While hinting that the NDC’s manifesto focuses on the citizenry’s will, Mr. Mahama said he has confidence that “very soon we shall see and have a feel of a manifesto that responds to the day-to-day needs of Ghanaians and leverages on our shared aspirations and common identity when it is launched.”
The 2-day dialogue by the party’s policy think tank, NDC Social Democracy Lab, the office of the flag bearer and the party forms part of efforts to foster collaboration and distil key policy proposals to guide the party’s campaign efforts and manifesto development process.
