Current Chairperson, Greater Accra branch of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUISIGA) and presidential aspirant, Ras Caleb Appiah Levi has levelled accusations against the National Executive Committee(NEC) of MUSIGA labelling them as “Amateur Drivers”.
He made this revelation on the Entertainment Zone radio show hosted by Barrista Daniels on ATL FM. According to Ras Caleb Appiah Levi, the current NEC is like an amateur or inexperienced drivers who are likely to plunge the musicians union into a grave disaster. As a result, being an experienced driver, he can’t allow such inexperienced drivers to send them into the ditch.
The statement was against the background that Ras Levi had petitioned the court to halt the MUSIGA elections scheduled for June 2019 due to activities that he felt was a breach of the union’s constitution concerning elections.
“If you are a very good driver, travelling on a long journey with another driver, and you realize that this driver is an amateur driver and we could have an accident, I will let him stop the car and take over the wheel and drive the car to the destination. What I’m trying to mean is that everything that was done with regards to the elections were flawed. They were not using the constitution of the Musicians Union of Ghana. This has brought us this far” he stated.
Furthermore, he went on to state that there were some anomalies that had plagued the entire electoral process, hence his decision to take the case to court. Major among these was the bloated voters register which was initially presented as parts of preparations for the elections.
“We all know what happened to the voters list, which I complained about which initially had over 3,000, but after I complained at court, the number reduced to about 742, so it means that whatever I am talking about, I have evidence of everything” he intimated.
MUSIGA elections postponed amidst NEC, who seem to be Amateur Drivers
The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), has called off the union’s elections to elect new national executive officers scheduled for Wednesday, June 24.
A statement from MUSIGA signed by the Acting President, Bessa Simons and General Secretary, Deborah Freeman enumerated a number of reasons for the decision.
In addition, the statement also mentioned a pending court case against the union and some of its executives and functionaries in relation to the elections.
“MUSIGA would like to reassure all its members and well-wishers that the leadership’s decision to call off the elections is in the best interest of the union and a new date will be announced in due course,” the statement said.
However, according to Ras Caleb, he opined that NEC must also be blamed for the delay in elections.
