It was early Saturday morning, beyond three in the morning, and many of the partygoers who were still waiting for Nigerian Afrobeats artist Davido to perform at ElWak stadium had a look of exhaustion on their faces.
His concert was supposed to be the high point of this year’s two-day AfroFuture festival, which got underway on Thursday, December 28 with amazing performances by Samini and Black Sherif of Ghana.
After Adekunle Gold’s performance, fans had to wait for about two hours, and boredom was beginning to set in.
To lighten the atmosphere of the crowd, MC Lolastic and Mensa Jr lit up the venue with back-to-back vintage hip-hop songs.
There were thunderous applause when Davido’s big declaration to take the stage was made.
The Unavailable hitmaker’s appearance on stage sent the audience into a frenzy after they had to wait for many minutes.
Davido expressed regret for the wait, blaming technological difficulties. Having said so, he began his task by playing some of his older songs, such as Damiduro and Back When, to which the audience sang and danced.
The audience was enthused by Davido’s contagious energy and cheered him on during his performance.
He sang a selection of his hit songs, including Dream Girl, If, Feel, Assurance, Unavailable, and Blow My Mind, with elegance while serving his customers.
The thrill of the moment was increased when Davido was joined on stage by celebrities like Stonebwoy and King Promise.

On the second day, Adekunle Gold, R2Bees, Musah Keys of South Africa, and Camidoh all performed.

AfroFuture is a celebration of the vibrant work of African entrepreneurs and creatives as well as the rich diversity of African culture.
Through an innovative approach to teaching, explaining, and exploring different cultures, the festival aims to elevate and expose Africa’s exciting and blooming millennial talent.
Formerly called Afrochella, the event offers attendees a chance to appreciate African music, take in luxury and sophisticated cuisine, and engage with art and innovative activations from the continent.
This year’s celebration began on Thursday, December 28 and lasted for two days.
Afro Future’s first day featured amazing performances by some of Ghana’s best performers, including as vocalist Efya and seasoned reggae singer Samini, who thrilled the enthusiastic audience with a memorable musical and theatrical experience. Among the performances were Crayon, a new signing to Mavin Records, and Nigerian rapper Odumodublvck. (Read: Black Sherif states at Afro Future, “This is my last performance.”)
Hit music was served by DJs Juls, DJ Stakz, Daddy Chulo, and Black Charle behind the turn tables.
Mensah Jr., Michael Nicholss, and MC Lolalistic served as this year’s hosts of AfroFuture.
