Cape Coast, Ghana – Christians on Monday 25th December, observed Christmas Day with a series of special church services, drawing congregants from across the Cape Coast Metropolis to celebrate the festive occasion with prayer, song, and community spirit.
At PCG Ebenezer Congregation, Pedu, the Christmas Day service was a blend of solemn reverence and joyous celebration. The Church Auditorium, adorned with poinsettias and twinkling lights, welcomed a diverse congregation. Rev. Dr. Brandford K. Yeboah, District Minister led the service, focusing his message on peace.
“Today, we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and the message of hope He brings to our world,” he said to the congregants.
He further noted that peace requires action from us adding that there must be a step of faith and calls of acceptance of God’s offer and deliberate walk in God.
Meanwhile, at the University Interdenominational Church (UIC), Cape Coast, a more contemporary celebration took place. The church was filled with the vibrant sounds of gospel music, with a lively choir leading the congregation in carols and praise songs. Rev. Kwesi Amissah-Essel’s sermon highlighted that peace is a state of well-being and prosperity with the absence of hostility.
Citing Galatians 5:21, he indicated that peace is a fruit of the spirit and it is one of the marks of the kingdom of God
Rev. Kwesi Amissah-Essel also noted that Christmas is not just about receiving; it’s about giving, sharing, and caring for one another.
Throughout Cape Coast, churches of all denominations opened their doors to offer comfort, community, and a place to reflect on the deeper meanings of the holiday. From the grand cathedrals to the modest chapels, each service was a testament to the faith and resilience of the community.
Local residents and tourists alike expressed their joy and gratitude for these services.
“Attending the Christmas service is a tradition for my family. It’s a time to pause and be thankful for all our blessings,” shared Esi Nyarko, a resident of Cape Coast.
As the day progressed, the churchgoers dispersed, carrying with them the messages of hope, love, and community they had received.
The Christmas Day church services in Cape Coast were not just a religious observance but a celebration of the enduring spirit of the community, marking yet another festive and meaningful Christmas in the heart of Ghana.
