Guinness World Records (GWR) has granted Ghanaian journalist Afua Asantewaa Aduonum permission to embark on an ambitious singing marathon (singathon) that would span 117 to 120 hours.
Mrs. Aduonum, a strong supporter of women’s emancipation, intends to concentrate solely on songs from Ghana, honoring the Highlife, Hiplife, and Gospel genres, in her quest for the longest solo singathon.
Every song will be restricted to no more than two minutes, and repeating a song will only be allowed in accordance with GWR laws following a four-hour break.

Aduonum is determined to break the existing record, which was achieved in 2012 by Indian Sunil Waghmare and stands at 105 hours. The singing marathon, which is slated for December, has already received a lot of support from Ghanaians on social media.
Some people are doubtful that she can surpass the existing record, while others think that she has a good chance of succeeding if Ghanaians support her widely.
Mrs. Aduonum has scheduled her world record attempt for December 24-27, 2023.
This program comes after GWR honored 26-year-old Nigerian chef Hilda Baci, also referred to as Hilda Effiong Bassey, for holding the record for the longest marathon cooking session in June, clocking in at 93 hours and 11 minutes. But Irish chef Alan Fisher beat this record in November, clocking in at an astounding 119 hours and 57 minutes.
The renowned British reference book Guinness World Records, which has been released yearly since 1955, lists astounding feats of human accomplishment as well as extraordinary nature phenomena. It was also known as The Guinness Book of World Records in earlier US versions. The Guinness Book of Records was its previous name until 1999.
