In a remarkable achievement for both the University of Cape Coast and the Department of Communication Studies, UCC, Ms. Collincia Ayifa, a level 300 student Reading B.A. Communication Studies from the university, has been awarded the prestigious title of the 27th GJA Student Journalist of the Year.
The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) annually honors outstanding student journalists who demonstrate excellence in their reporting skills, ethical conduct, and commitment to upholding journalistic principles.
The 27th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards was held at the Accra International Conference Centre, with 129 individuals battling for 34 categories of awards.
This year’s award ceremony is on the theme “Leveraging Media Freedom to Sustain the Democratic and Security Architecture: The Litmus Test of Election 2024.”
Ms. Collincia Ayifa, the awardee for the best student journalist of the year, displayed exceptional journalistic prowess throughout her journalistic writing on scientific discoveries about E. coli contamination of the popular millet and milk smoothie, “Brukina,” to the forefront of public narrative.
This was highlighted in her story published on myjoyonline.com in 2021, titled “Brukina: A Nutritious Food Contaminated with E. coli.
This well-deserved accolade not only honors the exceptional achievements of this talented student but also serves as an inspiration to aspiring journalists across Ghana. It highlights the importance of quality education and training in shaping the future of journalism in the country.
