Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, Ghana’s Chief Justice, has rejected a plea from the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to remove Justice Edward Twum from the Cecilia Dapaah case.
In a petition, the OSP stated that Justice Twum ought to be excluded from any cases involving Cecilia Dapaah because of his prejudice against the OSP. Nevertheless, the Chief Justice rejected the plea.
The OSP in a post on X formerly Twitter disclosed that “By a letter dated 25 October 2023, the Judicial Secretary informed The Special Prosecutor that, the Chief Justice is unable to accede to the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) request for his lordship Justice Edward Twum to be recused and removed from all cases involving the OSP pending before him.”

Based on the belief that Justice Edward Twum seemed to be seriously biassed against the OSP and the Special Prosecutor, the OSP filed their plea.
The Court, presided over by Justice Twum, was forced to postpone its Thursday, October 12, session until the Chief Justice responded to the motion to remove him from the case.
The former minister of sanitation was accused of failing to declare her assets, but the matter could not be heard by the court.
This resulted from the lawyers for the special prosecutor’s office being unable to attend court because of the motion to remove the judge from all of their cases.
